Introducing Lieutenant Colonel Elain Andrews, JD, USAR (Ret.)

It is with great pleasure that the National Veterans Foundation welcomes a new contributor to the wealth of resources for Veterans on the NVF website, Lieutenant Colonel Elain Andrews, JD, USAR (Ret.).

elain_andrewsElain Andrews will be blogging on the NVF website about estate planning for veterans, a topic that is often overlooked and avoided not just by veteran families but by people of all ages and tax brackets across the US.

You don’t need to be rich to have a plan in place for the unplanned and the unexpected.  End of life planning is a topic that many (even most) people tend to avoid, but leaning into this task now can save loved ones from unnecessary additional grief at an already difficult time, if an unexpected death or disability occurs later.

We’re grateful to have Elaine writing about this topic on our website, because, not only is she one of the most knowledgeable people in the country on estate planning, she’s also a fellow veteran.

For the past 25 years, Elain Andrews, a lawyer and estate planning expert, has helped thousands of families protect their assets through thoughtful estate planning and her very public mission to ensure that both veterans and civilians are informed and protected when it comes to preserving their property and rights.  Her most recent book, Fifty Excuses (Not) To Do Bulletproof Estate Planning, highlights the importance of a sound estate plan for almost every American.

When not practicing estate law at her Northern California based Andrews Law Firm, Elain recently retired after serving 23 years in the US Army Reserves.  During her military career, she served as an officer in psychological operations and later as company commander of a military intelligence battalion specializing in counter intelligence. The last seven years Elain served as an officer in a Special Forces battalion of the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps.

She’s the real deal.  Check out her first blog at the National Veterans Foundation website, Heads Up: Your Military Will Won’t Necessarily Protect You in Civilian Life

Welcome to the NVF team, Elain!
