Nation’s Finest 50 Award

We’re proud to announce that NVF President and Founder Shad Meshad has been nominated for the Nation’s Finest 50 Award. Nation’s Finest was founded in 1972 to help returning Veterans transition from the military to civilian life. To celebrate their 50 years of service, they are recognizing and honoring others who have supported our Veterans with the Nation’s Finest 50 Award.

Both the NVF and Nation’s Finest were founded by Vietnam Veterans. When you combine their careers, Shad Meshad and Peter Cameron have served their fellow Veterans for over a century.

The two met in Los Angeles. At the time, Peter was involved with the non-profit The Flower of the Dragon in Santa Rosa. In 1977, Shad went up to see him at a meeting for Vietnam Vets. Shad lobbied for and co-authored the Vet Center Program, then established the first Vet Centers, modeled after his rap groups in Los Angeles. Peter was one of the first trainers for the Vet Centers Counseling program and remained a major Veteran services leader in Northern California until his recent retirement.

The Nation’s Finest 50 will be announced Memorial Day weekend.
