Today, NVF is entering an exciting new phase of growth. We are seeking an experienced, visionary fundraising executive to help build the Foundation’s future by expanding philanthropic support, strengthening strategic partnerships, and increasing our national presence.

Position Summary

The Chief Development Officer is a member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for leading all fundraising, philanthropic, and strategic partnership initiatives for the National Veterans Foundation.

The CDO will design and execute a comprehensive development strategy that increases annual revenue through major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundation grants, planned giving, special events, and individual donor programs.

This executive will work closely with the President & Founder and Board of Directors to build a sustainable fundraising culture that positions NVF for significant long-term growth and national recognition

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Leadership

  • Serve as the Foundation’s senior fundraising executive.
  • Develop and execute a multi-year diversified strategic fundraising plan.
  • Advise the President and Board on fundraising strategy and growth opportunities.
  • Build a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.

Major Gifts & Philanthropy

  • Develop relationships with major donors capable of making transformational gifts.
  • Personally cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects.
  • Build a robust pipeline of high-net-worth individuals.
  • Expand planned giving and legacy giving programs.
  • Implement a donor recognition program

Corporate & Foundation Relations

  • Secure corporate sponsorships and strategic partnerships.
  • Develop relationships with private and family foundations.
  • Identify and pursue significant grant opportunities.
  • Build partnerships with veteran-serving organizations and national brands.

Board Engagement

  • Partner with Board members in donor cultivation.
  • Provide fundraising training and support to Board members.
  • Prepare regular fundraising reports and performance metrics.

Community & Public Relations

  • Serve as an ambassador for NVF.
  • Represent the Foundation at conferences, community events, and donor meetings.
  • Strengthen NVF’s national visibility and reputation.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible nonprofit fundraising leadership.
  • Demonstrated success securing six- and seven-figure gifts.
  • Experience managing comprehensive fundraising programs.
  • Strong corporate partnership and foundation development experience.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to inspire donors, volunteers, Board members, and staff.
  • Knowledge of veterans’ issues is desirable.

First-Year Success Metrics

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop a comprehensive strategic development plan.
  • Significantly expand the major donor pipeline.
  • Increase annual fundraising revenue.
  • Launch or expand a planned giving program.
  • Increase corporate sponsorship revenue.
  • Strengthen foundation relationships.
  • Improve donor retention and stewardship.
  • Expand national awareness of NVF.
  • Position the Foundation for long-term sustainable growth.

Long-Term Success Measures

The candidate will:

  • Implement a donor recognition program.
  • Lead in growing the NVF to a $5-15 million organization.
  • Build national recognition for the NVF’s contribution to supporting Veterans.
  • Build a consistent and dependable donor base.
  • Meet annual fund raising goals.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $80,000–$100,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
