Baumhower’s Restaurants to Donate 5% of Memorial Day Sales to National Veterans Foundation

Baumhower’s Restaurants in Alabama will donate 5 percent of all its food and beverage sales on Memorial Day to the National Veterans Foundation, in support of its programs helping veterans readjust to civilian life after leaving the military.

For the last two years, Baumhower’s has supported the National Veterans Foundation by donating a percentage of its sales on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and through sales of its Bob’s Platoon t-shirts.

“The Baumhower’s Restaurant family and our customers support our troops and support our veterans. Alabama is one of the most patriotic states in the country,” said Bob Baumhower. “More and more veterans are coming home and struggling with readjustment. More and more are suffering from PTSD, and more are committing suicide. We just want to help these brave men and women. And this Memorial Day we’re showing our support.”

Baumhower’s Restaurants and its parent company, Aloha Hospitality, have partnered with the National Veterans Foundation since 2014 through the Bob’s Platoon campaign. Both Shad Meshad, the President and Founder of the National Veterans Foundation and Bob Baumhower are sons of Alabama. Shad Meshad was born and raised in Birmingham before going off to Vietnam in 1970. Bob Baumhower, a lifelong Alabama native, played football for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide under Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant where he was an All-American offensive lineman. In the NFL, he was a six time All-Pro for the Miami Dolphins. The first Baumhower’s Restaurant was opened in 1981. The restaurant chain was created to share Bob’s foodie passion and bring chicken wings to Alabama.

“It is a great source of pride for me that an Alabama business is stepping up to support our programs for veterans,” said Shad Meshad. “Baumhower’s Restaurants support has enabled us to serve thousands of veterans, and to save the lives of suicidal veterans who call our national Lifeline for Vets. Baumhower’s is one American company who puts its money where its mouth is in support of our veterans. I encourage any patriot in Alabama who wants to support veterans on Memorial Day to visit a Baumhower’s Restaurant and enjoy some great food while they celebrate this patriotic holiday.”

Memorial Day, May 30, 5 percent of all the food and beverage sales at Baumhower’s restaurants in Daphne, Huntsville, Lee Branch, Montgomery, Montgomery Downtown, Patton Creek, Tuscaloosa and Wind Creek Atmore will go to support the National Veterans Foundation.

Since 1985, the National Veterans Foundation has helped over 400,000 veterans and their families with crisis and information services through the nation’s first toll-free, vet-to-vet hotline for all U.S. veterans and their families. Our veteran counselors provide veterans and their families with information, counseling and service referrals for issues around suicide, VA benefits, mental health counseling, housing, medical services, education benefits, financial issues and more.
