NVF’s Response to Covid-19: We Didn’t Miss a Day

Los Angeles went into lockdown on March 20th. The mayor’s announcement came late afternoon on the 19th. Our counselors were still answering calls on our Lifeline for Vets. Knowing the calls would continue to come in and likely increase in number, we were all worried. What would happen if we were forced to close?

Because of the nature of the service we provide, we were designated an essential service. Everyone was back to work the next morning. We didn’t miss a day. But here’s the thing: our dedicated counselors were willing to come in regardless.

Our National Veterans Foundation Team stayed in constant contact with the VA and other local, regional, state and federal partners to make sure we provided the most up-to-date information to Veterans and their families who call our toll-free Lifeline for Vets. We’re still doing that.
