National Veterans Foundation Launches Veteran Employment Awareness Campaign for Veterans Day

In celebration of Veterans Day, the National Veterans Foundation announces a Veteran Employment Awareness campaign.  Therefore we are highlighting businesses with active Veteran hiring, training and placement programs.

The project will list companies with Veteran employment programs linking to each business’s programs for getting veterans jobs.  The goal of the campaign is to connect Veterans seeking employment with Veteran-friendly companies.

First of all, we celebrate those businesses who place a priority on hiring Veterans.

Unique Challenges for Veteran Employment

“Veterans returning back to the civilian workforce face a unique set of challenges in getting good, living wage jobs to support themselves and their families,” said NVF Founder & President Shad Meshad. “A young man or woman who entered the military right after high school and served four or eight years are, as a result, a step behind their peers, who have a head start on gaining civilian work experience and contacts.

Businesses that place a priority on recruiting, hiring and training veterans are critical. Most importantly, they can help these American heroes get the careers they need to successfully transition back to civilian life.”

Veteran employment numbers reached a low of 2.7% this month while over five million servicemembers will be returning to the civilian world in the next five years. Underemployment—due to low wage and part-time employment—continues to be an obstacle to supporting their families and owning their own homes.

In conclusion, we celebrate these businesses and encourage all businesses to do what they can to hire veterans.
