PREMIERE TONIGHT – Film tells stories of Jewish war heroes

The Conejo Jewish Academy will host the premiere of the documentary “True Honor: Jewish War Heroes” at 7:30 p.m. Mon., Dec. 12, at the Westlake Village Cinema, 4711 Lakeview Canyon Road.

True Honor Jewish War HeroesThe film pays tribute to 17 American Jewish heroes who have earned the Medal of Honor.

The documentary was produced by the Jewish War Veterans, an American veterans organization chartered in 1896.

The film includes the story Tibor Rubin, the only Holocaust survivor to ever receive the Medal of Honor. He enlisted in the U.S. Army to thank America for freeing him. Rubin was a savior in a POW camp where he relied on his concentration camp experiences as a teenager to help keep his buddies alive.

Because of admitted anti- Semitism, Rubin waited more than half a century to receive the Medal of Honor.

The movie also tells the story of Dr. Ben Salomon, a dentist trained at USC who fought in the Battle of Saipan during World War II. He is the only dentist to receive the Medal of Honor.

The film will introduce 15 other Jewish heroes from the Civil War to current conflicts.

After the screening a question and-answer session will be moderated by Ron Stackler with a guest panel comprising Greg Lee, commander of the Jewish War Veterans in California and chair of the California State Commander Veterans Council; Paul Cohen, distinguished World War II veteran, and Chuck Ashman, the film’s executive producer.

Tickets are $12 and are available at www.jewishacademy.com or by calling (818) 991-0991.
