Served Like a Girl – Veteran Documentary

Served Like A Girl is a documentary film chronicling the lives of female veterans as they compete for the crown of Ms. Veteran America.

“The documentary is superb because it touches base on all the issues of being a female vet today,” said Women Veteran Outreach Coordinator Leaphy Khim. “These include homelessness, MST, transitioning, services at the VA, broken relationships, acceptance and many, many more. There were a lot of tear jerking moments but overall the documentary was meant to empower other women vets to come together and fight for what we deserve. This film is a definite must see.”

“Aside from The Invisible War, this is the most powerful documentary/movie/show I have ever seen regarding women veterans,” said Women Veteran Outreach Director, Mary Ann Mayer. “There were very few dry eyes in the audience. It was an incredible opportunity for Leaphy and myself to meet these amazing women!”

Director Lysa Heslov’s powerful documentary, SERVED LIKE A GIRL, follows several American women who were wounded in action and are now transitioning from soldier to civilian after serving their country in Iraq and Afghanistan. Struggling with PTSD, homelessness, broken families, divorce, serious illness, and military sexual abuse, these remarkable women harness humor to adapt to the emotional, social and economic challenges they face, through the MS. VETERAN AMERICA competition. Balancing beauty and brawn, they are guided by event founder and veteran Major Jas Boothe, using the competition to regain their identities and way of life that they sacrificed in foreign wars. It is an engaging and honest look at an often unseen veteran reality.
