Remember This Woman Vet?

Update on the Woman Veteran we featured on the front page of our Memorial Day newsletter: You might remember that her car broke down on the way to LA. Staff met her at the bus station, helped her find housing and a job. Now we’re delighted to report another happy ending: Women Veteran Outreach staff has been successful in upgrading this Veteran’s discharge from Other than Honorable to Honorable. What’s the difference? It means that all her benefits are restored. All. That really changes this woman’s future.

As a side note, her Other Than Honorable was because she reported being a victim of Military Sexual Trauma. This happens all too frequently. For a long time, it appeared to be standard procedure. Advocating for women veterans has helped publicize the fact that discharges can be upgraded. We’ve still got a ways to go…
