A Little Thrift Provides a Lot of Support for Veterans

Bryan and Ken Hubina of Bell Thrift

National Veterans Foundation’s biggest supporter isn’t a government agency or a giant corporation. It’s a thrift store in the city of Bell, CA.

Since 2011, Bell Thrift Store has helped raise money for the National Veterans Foundation through a clothing donation program. With Bell Thrift’s support, the NVF’s Lifeline for Vets has been able to assist over 70,000 Veterans during the last six years.

“We’re really grateful for the partnership with Bell Thrift,” said NVF President & Founder Shad Meshad. “The consistent support we receive from their operation every month means a lot to us. It’s improved the lives of a lot of Veterans through our programs.”

For Bell Thrift’s owners, brothers Ken and Bryan Hubina, it’s a family business. Their father owned and operated the original Hubina thrift store in Long Beach when they were growing up. Ken and Bryan opened the store in Bell in 2009, and began partnering with the NVF 2011.  They now employ 48 people who pick up clothing donations, sort and clean the clothing, put it out on the racks, and help customers. The store has a 4-star review on Yelp.

“I love this place!!!!,” said one reviewer. “…they are so organized. They always have what I’m looking for. And they have daily color sales.”

“We are thrilled to be working with the National Veterans Foundation,” said Ken Hubina. “We get to support their programs helping Veterans, and the communities we receive clothing from feel good that their donations are helping such a great cause.”

The Bell Thrift team picks up clothing donations as far out as Costa Mesa, Crown Valley, Lakewood and Long Beach. To schedule a pick-up call (855) 628-8387.
